The Repco Supercars Championship may be heading back to Phillip Island next year, but that's not the biggest news, with the Phillip Island Festival of Motoring gaining support from both sides of politics.

A $100,000 election commitment from the Liberal-National Coalition was announced in San Remo on Friday morning, adding to a confirmed $44,000 grant from Visit Victoria.

Liberal candidate for Bass and former Bass Coast Shire Council mayor Rochelle Halstead made the announcement alongside Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and Shadow Minister for Tourism and Major Events David Southwick, stating, "A Liberal National Government are going to deliver a three-day motoring festival for the Island." If elected, the Coalition has pledged $100,000 towards the inaugural Phillip Island Festival of Motoring in 2027.

The Phillip Island Festival of Motoring Inc. Board of Directors are thrilled by the announcement.

"The Phillip Island Festival of Motoring Board is delighted with the support we have received today and is looking forward to working closely with the Phillip Island community to grow this festival event with a positive impact for all," Peter Donald said.

The Victorian Historic Racing Register (VHRR) has also welcomed the news.

"This will not just be one event, but a festival that grows every year and an asset that cannot be taken away from us," VHRR vice-president Mike Herlihy said.

A joint initiative of the VHRR, AOMC and Phillip Island community the ambition is to one day rival internationally renowned events such as Goodwood Revival and Festival of Speed, and the Monterey Motorsports Festival, celebrating Phillip Island's rich racing heritage while bringing a new wave of motoring and lifestyle experiences to the region.

The three-day Festival of Motoring event will complement the popular Island Classic, with plans to eventually grow into a week-long celebration of all things motoring, lifestyle and Phillip Island.

And there's plenty in store for enthusiasts. Saturday morning will see the Drive to the Island roll into San Remo for a special welcome before participants head to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for a day of historic racing. As the chequered flag falls, attention will turn to Cowes, where polished chrome, classic curves and automotive treasures will take centre stage at a twilight Show 'n' Shine.

Sunday morning will offer another opportunity for enthusiasts to display their pride and joy in Cowes before heading back to the circuit or exploring everything Phillip Island has to offer.

The first Phillip Island Festival of Motoring is confirmed for March 12–14, 2027, and now the government has it in their diaries!
