The countdown has begun for the 2027 Phillip Island Classic, with thousands of competitors, enthusiasts, families, motorsport fans and dedicated event volunteers are preparing to converge on the iconic 4.44 km Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for one of the world's premier historic racing events.

Significantly, in 2027, the Phillip Island Classic will become the anchor event for the newly created Phillip Island Festival of Motoring.

Established by a group of local tourism and business leaders, and with strong

community backing, the festival is intended to position Phillip Island as the classic motoring and motorsport centre of the Southern Hemisphere.

Planned to grow year on year, the festival will attract local and overseas visitors, providing significant economic benefits to Victoria generally and the Bass Coast region specifically.

Recognised as the largest historic motor racing event in the Southern Hemisphere, the Phillip Island Classic is a spectacular celebration of Australia's rich motorsport heritage and international racing history.

The event annually attracts local and international motorsport enthusiasts, and features more than 350 historic competition vehicles competing across a diverse range of racing categories.

The weekend’s packed schedule will offer fans a unique opportunity to experience motorsport in the raw – up close, loud, authentic and unforgettable. Spectators will enjoy rare and unparalleled free access to the paddock and garages, meeting drivers and teams, exposed to many of the most significant historic racing machinery ever gathered in Australia.

"The Phillip Island Classic is much more than a race meeting; it is a living celebration of motorsport history," said Event Director Mike Herlihy.

"From iconic touring cars and open-wheel racers to sports cars that defined

generations of competition, the event brings together the sights, sounds and spirit of historic motorsport in a way only events like the UK’s Goodwood Revival and the Monterey Car Week in the US can challenge."

Set against the dramatic coastal backdrop of Bass Straight, the Phillip Island Classic will feature three days of non-stop racing action, classic car displays, automotive exhibits, memorabilia, family-friendly entertainment and opportunities for fans to engage directly with the people who preserve and race these remarkable machines.

On track, packed grids of historic touring cars, classic sports racers and multiple open wheel categories are anticipated, supported in the spectator areas by hundreds of car club display vehicles, the weekend of March 12-14 2027 promises another unforgettable chapter in this event's distinguished history.

Further event details, ticketing information and competitor announcements will be released in the lead-up to the 2027 Phillip Island Classic.
