About the Event
2024 Historic Sandown
Touring car fans are in for a treat, and the ‘tin top’ action promises to be fast and furious in a series of supersprints. Many of the great cars from the past, as well as the tribute cars, will be on hand to rekindle memories of the titanic battles seen at Sandown over the years – Holdens, Fords, Chryslers, BMWs, Jaguars – they’ll all be out in force.
The meeting has attracted a strong interest from the smaller, but very nimble Formula Fords; a category that has been the nursery class for so many of the top Grand Prix drivers, and these great little open wheelers are always a feature of the program.
The thundering Formula 5000s will also enjoy making their presence known with their ground shaking performance. These 5-litre open wheelers thrilled Australian fans during the 1970s and featured in those epic battles known as the Tasman Series.
Adding to the spectacle will be the displays from many club cars involving more than 300 desirable vehicles. Their proud owners will have them on show at the concourse alongside the main grandstand and at Red Hill on the Dandenong Road end of the circuit for the public to enjoy.
There’s something for everyone, with as many as 11 different Historic categories from the 1920s to the ‘80s taking part in a three-day weekend of great motor sport action.
Trade stands, food outlets and off-track displays are added bonuses, and unlike modern day motor sport, mixing with the cars and drivers makes Historic racing a truly memorable experience. Everything is conveniently located at Sandown Park, and there’s free access to the pits and the grandstand where excellent viewing of the trackside action can be enjoyed.
